Biography of a Great Smoker Kelsey Grammer

Playing Frasier Crane for more than 20 years in Cheers and then his own show, Frasier, Kelsey Grammer has been one of the best known comedic actors of the last four decades. His character was known for his suave sophistication and love of finer things in life such as vintage wines and the opera and it appears that the actor shares some of this class as a well-known cigar aficionado.

With an enviable vernacular and rich baritone voice, Grammer has always been drawn to character who reflect class and intelligence – including a memorable long-standing gig as the voice of The Simpsons’ criminal of choice, Sideshow Bob.

It is now 30 years since Grammer won the life-changing role of Frasier Crane on the hugely popular American sitcom Cheers. In what was originally intended to be a short guest appearance, Grammer became a star of the show for seven seasons.
As the money from being on two of the most famous television shows of all time continued to role in, Grammer indulged his love for tobacco and fine cigars and smoked as a form of meditation. “I did enjoy Cuban Cohibas and several others. There’s an art form to it. Smoking a cigar was taking a moment out of the day, usually in the evening, sitting in a bucolic environment, enjoying the taste of tobacco.
“I’ll enjoy a cigar after dinner, usually in a quiet atmosphere. Cigars are perfect accompaniments to a great conversation, preferably with one person. I’m not for sitting around in a circle full of boys, puffing up. I like the more personal event.”
Grammer had a rich pedigree for the performing arts from a young age, earning a place in the prestigious Juilliard school and earning a three-year internship with the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. The actor then first performed on Broadway in 1981 in a performance of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. He then played in another Shakespeare play, Othello, alongside the man who famously voiced Darth Vader – James Earl Jones.

Still acting in film and television, Grammer has stated his interest in running for United States congress. A position that undoubtedly suits a man who loves a cigar.
