Menthol cigarettes will not be banned in 2020 following Brexit.

Proposed 2020 Menthol Ban Blown Away By Brexit

Plans to ban menthol cigarettes in 2020 as part of the Tobacco Products Directive have been cancelled after Britain voted to leave the European Union, according to reports.

The TPD had plans to axe menthol cigarettes as their “pleasant flavour” attracted people to smoking. It was expected that menthol cigarettes, along with 10 packs, were to be a thing of the past by 2020.

It would not be surprising if many menthol smokers voted to leave in June’s EU Referendum as the proposed 2020 ban was common knowledge among the general public.

The Department of Health told The Sun: “This is one of the many areas that the Government will want to consider carefully as part of the process of leaving the EU.”

Christopher Snowden, from the Institute of Economic Affairs, welcomed Brexit and the subsequence cancellation as it eradicates “unnecessary and meddlesome EU regulations”.

“Bans on menthol cigarettes, packs of ten and various types e-cigarette fluid never had any serious justification.

“Even David Cameron (former Conservative Prime Minister) said he couldn’t understand why the EU wants smokers to to buy more cigarettes.”

“A great repeal bill should be drawn up and crazy laws like this should be on it.”

The news is good news for menthol smokers!
